Help, dirty water in our taps

Residents of Andheri (West) K ward have been receiving turbid water in their taps for over a week. The water has lots of particles in it that settle down when it’s stored in vessels.

Will someone at the BMC do something about this?

— Natesan Balakrishnan

 Will negligent BMC ever learn?

The incident of senior citizen Pattamal Naidu who fell into an open stormwater drain in Wadala has once again highlighted the negligence of the civic

authorities.

One wonders how difficult is it for the BMC to get its contractors to erect a barricade that could warn people of an open drain, and thus help save a precious human life?

As it always happens after a tragedy like this one, the authorities are pointing fingers at each other for the negligence. In a few days, the furore over this poor woman’s death will die down and the errant contractor will once again get back to making money.

Will anything at all ever compensate the pain and the anguish of the family that has lost its backbone?

Cop’s plight is a shame on us

This refers to ‘J&K cop who shot 10 militants begs for a living’ (MM, Jan 6).

The plight of special police officer Mustaq Ahmed, who after fighting terrorists is left to beg for his own and his family’s survival, brought tears to my eyes.

How could our defence authorities be blind to this brave cop’s plight? Just because he was employed on a contractual basis, can we forget the great service that this brave officer has done to his motherland?

If this is how we treat our heroes, no mother would allow or encourage her children to join the Army.

It is the duty of the defence authorities to look after Ahmed and his family.

— Yogesh Bhavsar

It is pathetic that SPO Mushtaq Ahmed is compelled to beg for a living.

I wonder whether any other country would ignore the sacrifice and service of its security personnel.

As a retired DGP, I feel a corpus fund needs to be created for the brave soldier so that he does not feel let down by us Indians.

Dhoni, gear up for World Cup

The Indian team, like in 2007, let go of a great opportunity to win a series on SA soil for the first time.

And it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is to be blamed for this. He set a defensive field when the opposition was 6 down for 130 on the board. He did the same thing against New Zealand when they were in a similar situation when the need of the hour was to attack and take wickets.

This is not a good sign as the World Cup is approaching, and Indians are being tipped as one of the favourites to win the Cup.
